LaserNet returns beam to Monterrey, Mexico

LaserNet successfully repaired the green laser beam that rotates over the City of Monterrey restoring a long held tradition. The 240’ tall Tower “Light House of Commerce” had been idle for 2 years due to various attempts to repair the system by others. The beam over the City was restored just in time for the September 15th Independence Day Celebration. In addition to restoration, LaserNet also upgraded the installation with the addition of LaserPro beam table designed to target specific monuments like the City Hall building, the Museum of Mexican Culture, the Technological University, the Mexican flag at the Obispado Hill, and, the City cathedral (to name just a few). The beams bouncing throughout the City made their first appearance on September 20, the 410th Anniversary of the founding of the City of Monterrey.

Working closely with City Officials, LaserNet’s technical expert, Horacio Pugliese, repaired the extensively damaged YAG laser at LaserNet’s office and then installed the complete system in the “Light House of the Commerce” Due to the intense local media coverage, Pugliese has become a Monterrey celebrity, recognized on the street for his hard work in returning the beam over the City.

Monterrey Mayor Edgar Olays said, “After many failed attempts, it was a pleasure to work with someone that told me exactly what the problems were and then delivered exactly what he promised. We are very proud to have the laser beam, once again, rotating over the City. Mr. Pugliese did an excellent job.”

Pugliese states: “I am especially proud of the beam collimation combined with the targeting of the City Monuments. The beam at 5,000 Meters is 3 meters wide which means an incredibly tight beam traveling over the city for the precise targeting.”

The nightly laser display can be seen for miles as this unique feature of the city of Monterrey once again fills the sky with laser beams.

LaserNet is a founding member of ILDA (the International Laser Display Association) and took the necessary steps to train the current operators of the safety aspects of the laser display.

LaserNet's CEO celebrates 30th anniversary at LDI 2006 in Las Vegas

LaserNet’s CEO, Tom Harman, celebrated 30 years in the laser light show business at this year’s Lighting Dimensions International Trade show in Las Vegas.

In 1976, Mr. Harman left the broadcast television industry and joined a traveling light show troop doing light shows in planetariums. The company, Eye See The Light Show, grew to five simultaneous planetarium shows running across the United States in 1980. In 1983, the company moved to Miami, FL and has been located there ever since.

Mr. Harman changed the direction of the original light show company towards corporate events and gradually phased out the planetarium shows. The name was changed to Laser Productions in 1983 and then, as the company expanded, to Laser Production Network in 1992.

Laser Production’s “Network” now has extends around the globe with expansion happening every time a system is sold. LaserNet now imports systems, as well as, designs and builds custom installations world wide.

As a founding member of the International Laser Display Association (ILDA), still active in the organization, Mr. Harman supports the safe use of lasers and adheres to the principles set forth by ILDA.

Mr. Harman believes, “you’re only as good as you last show.”

LaserNet Verde Beam Raider on tour with Poison

LaserNet’s summer began with a bang as we were selected to join the 20th Anniversary Tour of the legendary rock band, Poison. The band’s greatest hits, including: Every Rose Has It’s Thorns, Something to Believe In, Unskinny Bop, I Want Action, Nothin’ But a Good Time, and more were played like never before to the cheering crowds.

LaserNet’s 20-watt Verde Beam Raider made its tour debut in flying color. This air-cooled, green-only laser system targeted bounce mirrors and blasted aerial patterns into the air to the driving beat of Poison. The rigorous tour schedule -- 55 cities in 65 days -- proved to be no problem for the rugged Verde projector.

According to Poison tour manager Mark Hogue, “We were very pleased with the reliability of the LaserNet system, it never missed a beat. Plus, never having to mess with water hoses made it a dream come true.”

LD Mark Miller added, “The laser projector is very well built and we have worked it hard with no problems. I can see more rock and roll in its future and even corporate gigs.”

LaserNet president Tom Harman noted that, “The Beam Raider system has been very successful in clubs, but getting it on the road was the acid test. We knew in our bones that it would be reliable, but, seeing is believing. We are very excited with the success of the tour.”

The LaserNet system included 12 bounce mirrors, 2 cone projectors, and LaserMax Pro Lasershow software. In addition to the normal gear, LaserNet included a window air-conditioner for adding cool air into the air-cooled laser during the hottest dates of the summer tour. The AC unit was used twice, once for the laser in Arizona and once for the operators!

LaserNet operators Tom “Hammer” Foster and Mike Dietz shared the responsibilities of life on the road with the laser.

Horacio Pugliese (l) and Tom Harman (r) hold the Club World Award, in front of the LaserNet BeamRaider laser projector.

From the Club World Award acceptance speeches:

Horacio Pugliese, LaserNet's chief technical designer:
I am honored to be recognized with this award. I put in many hours of blood, sweat and tears to make this laser projector perfect.
I hope everyone has the chance to enjoy it in their own club. Thank you for this honor.

Tom Harman, LaserNet's president:
It is gratifying to see our hard work recognized by Club Systems International.
The BeamRaider represents the best of the best. It has the latest scanner technology, the latest in diode laser technology and the latest in special effect projector design. The flexible design allows for precision beams to remote mirror bouncing, as well as full graphic scanning for aerials and logos. I rarely use this phrase, but it "is" the State of the Art in laser projectors. Thank you for this award.

Visual artists join LaserNet at ULTRA

(Press release, Miami, March 31, 2006)

Miami’s own Laser Production Network (LaserNet) brought to the 2006 ULTRA Music Festival, visual laser artists from renowned clubs across America. In addition to the well-known DJ’s performing at ULTRA, LaserNet plans to accompany the DJ’s with visual artists and high-powered laser beams that will make the music come alive.

LaserNet will be using a combination of high-powered lasers to work with the technical team at five different stages. Each stage will have a high-tech team encompassing a lighting director, a video director, and a laser director. Lighting directors, (LD’s), control the various moving light fixtures and moving trusses to bring the “rock concert” feel to the music. The Video director, or, VJ, is prepared with video images and content to accompany the music. The video LED screens on display at ULTRA are some of the most sophisticated in use today.

The laser visual artists will be using high-powered lasers to take the music to the next level of visual expression. Full-color, white-light laser and single-color YAG lasers will be operating throughout Bicentennial Park. The full-color lasers give an amazing array of colors to shoot over the audience.

  • Renee Potens is the laser visual artist for the main stage, working in conjunction with Paradigm Lighting’s designer Jorge Valdez. Renee performed on the main stage for the last two ULTRA’s and currently is lighting and laser director at Ft. Lauderdale’s Revolution. She worked with a 15 watt Coherent Sabre LaserPro projector using 20 bounce mirrors on stage and a 40 watt, 3-headed monster YAG system. This YAG system is so powerful, that it is split into three projectors placed on the stage appearing to be three separate systems, but in reality it all comes from one unit.

  • Chicago’s own Mike McHale, an established laser artist with Aura Technologies, rocked the Carl Cox tent with an 8 watt Chroma 10 white light laser outfitted with two sets of high-res scanners for full coverage of the tent. For the past 10 years, Mike has been the artistic director for laser projects throughout the world and you may have seen his work on any number of Carnival Cruise Line ships.

  • LaserNet’s newest operator, Jorge Hernandez, brings to the show many years experience in lighting and has a major touch with the beams. Jorge ran another 3-headed monster YAG projector in the Techno Tent and lit up the small area with lime green beams.

  • The always-packed House tent saw the newest whiz kid in action. Andy Keljik, from Ft. Myers, FL, operated the latest air-cooled diode projector to coat the inside of the tent with intense RGB colors and patterns. This system featured three individual 1 watt Lasers with real-time control.

  • At the Carry-On Party inside the American Airlines Arena, LaserNet’s president Tom Harman blasted away with white light laser beams to accompany “Rabbit and the Moon”. Known as the King of Beams, Harman used over 30 bounce mirrors to complete the complex 3-dimensional beam structures over the stage.

  • LaserNet’s Horacio Pugliese was the technical director for all of ULTRA’s laser stages. Horacio’s vast experience keeps things running smoothly.

LaserNet’s president Tom Harman, after confirming all artistic elements of the production, promised that ULTRA 2006 was the best yet.
